Trust and Ties

Networks, resources, morality, and norms. These are four key concepts of social network theory. Following are rough-and-ready definitions.

Networks can be a form of resource; networks can enable resources. Resources can exist in separation to networks, so resources are not conditional on the existence of networks.

Ties enable networks and the possibility of resources; ergo ties are superordinate to both networks and resources.

Norms can have a moral dimension; morality is a form of norm. Morality does not have to be shared to exist, so morality is not conditional on the existence of any norm.

Ties enable norms and the possibility of morality; ergo ties are superordinate to both norms and morality.

s are a manifestation of trust. Ergo the existence of all subordinate attributes – ties, networks, resources, morality and norms – d is conditional on the existence of trust.
