FNS Solutions Compared by Elements of Feasibility

Paul et al. (2014) propose that the feasibility of contending options can be analysed through three “elements of feasibility”: technical, financial, and business. The table below shows how each appraisal criterion is categorised according to these elements. (The criteria boxed in bold are super criteria, i.e. criteria that arguably span all three elements so can be considered as belonging to all three.)

The next table shows how each solution performs on each element of feasibility. The values in the columns derive from those available for each criterion, which are: Very Positive (3); Positive (2); Moderate (1); Negative (-1); and Very Negative (-2). The relative strength of a solution in terms of its technical, financial, or business feasibility is determined through basic arithmetic.

On all three feasibility elements, Solution A is distinctly superior.
